Abstract
Following a community-based participatory research model, this study explored the incidence and consequences of medical debt in three communities located in three different states. Interviewing community residents about the medicals bills they are unable to pay, this study qualitatively explores the conditions under which medical debt is incurred, and the ways in which having medical debt affects the lives of low-income households.
