Description
This project is evaluating the Barnstable Action for New Directions (BAND) treatment drug court program. BAND is a collaboration of Gosnold, the Barnstable District Court, probation, the district attorney's office, and public defenders and builds on their shared recognition that substance abuse is a major contributor to involvement with the criminal justice system. BAND provides intensive case management services to adult non-violent offenders with a history of substance abuse. Key aims of the BAND treatment drug court are, at the individual level, to improve treatment outcomes and reduce recidivism and, at the systems level, to strengthen referral networks and build community support. The evaluation's major goals are to (1) collect and report CSAT-mandated client outcome data to meet the requirements of the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA); and (2) conduct a local evaluation to document program implementation, assess the fidelity with which the program model is implemented, track the amount of services received by each BAND participant, and measure participant and systems outcomes related to the key aims of the BAND Program. The evaluation is designed to be useful to the ongoing implementation of the treatment drug court, assess the program's effectiveness at both individual and systems levels, and provide information to facilitate program replication.
