Description
The Washington Circle Pilot Study was funded to develop technical specifications and test four core substance abuse performance measures for adult alcohol and other drug (AOD) services in private sector health plans. Part of a larger core set of measures, these administrative data-based performance measures are focused on the activities of managed care organizations and the rate at which they identify and treat AOD disorders among enrollees. Performance measures, including identification rates for AOD disorders, initiation of treatment, and treatment engagement, were tested using data from seven large commercial managed care organizations. These results are informative as national accrediting organizations, states, managed care organizations and others consider adopting performance measures for AOD services.
