Description
A qualitative study of the relationship between immigrant political incorporation and grassroots organizing. In 2004 the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) and Health Care For All (HCFA), helped immigrants in the Boston area organized for political action around health care policy issues. We will systematically examine this process using case study methods. The study is designed to focus on the organizational conditions that either facilitated or inhibited the participation and political influence of immigrants in that effort. The research study will initially consist of in-depth interviews with key informants from two community-based organizations. Snowball methods will be used to expand the respondent list. Interview data will be collected between February 2005 and May 2005. Analysis of the data and report preparation will continue until the end of August 2005
